Creative Miami Events for the Artistic of Heart

It is a good week for artists living or visiting in Miami.
Wynwood and #SaveArtSpace Miami will be serving as the host of Troy Simmons’ work from December 15 to December 20. This public exhibition is being done in relation to Miami Art Week wherein his work will be displayed alongside 8 other local artists in South Florida. This public art exhibition will be curated by Travis Rix and Justin Aversano.

Over at the University of Miami – Lowe Art Museum, Liliane Tomasko will be holding her sculpture-photography exhibit entitled Mother-Matrix-Matter starting December 15. Tomasko is known for her quiet but powerful evocative works that makes use of soft sculptures made from fabrics stacked in a dimly-lit interior. She then takes Polaroid photos with or without flash creating images that are equally distorted as their sculpture counterparts.

Williams McCall Gallery will be displaying Jason Henthorne’s paintings in an exhibit entitled “Between Worlds”. This exhibit is a collection of Zen-like, high contrast black and white photographys made by award-winning artists Jason Henthrone. This event is free and will run up to January starting December 15.
Florida International University – The Wolfsonian will be exhibiting Margin of Error from December 15 all the way to the beginning of 2016. This exhibits aims to allow one to explore various cultural responses to mechanical mastery and engineered catastrophes in the modern age from ship wreaks to plane crashes and others. It also aims to reveal the consequences these have in history for man in their quest to defy and exceed limits.

Art and Culture Center of Hollywood will be presenting Nina Surel’s brand new exhibition Sailing to Byzantium from December 15 onwards. Exhibiting alongside her will be Santiago Rubino’s Light Out of Darkness, Oliver Wasow’s Studio Portraits, Gustavo Oviedo’s The New Past and Michael Namkung’s Levitation and Gravitas.

Got an art enthusiast asking for a one-of-a-kind Christmas gift? Then you will surely want to keep an eye out for this. Taking holiday shopping to a whole new level, ArtServe will be holding unWRAPPED: A Curated Collection of Art + Gifts on December 16 with a gallery reception of December 17.

Banco Do Brasil Americas will be featuring a mixed media exhibit entitled Sports in Art/Speed & Motion Exhibit starting December 15. This exhibit is dedicated to a variety of creative works inspired by the adrenaline rushed world of sports. Joining this exhibit are Rod Davila, Jotape, Sami Akl and Soco Frerie. The exhibit will be graced by race car driver and 22-time IndyCar winner, Helio Castroneves, who served as inspiration for Davila’s mixed media work.

The place will be decorated as it had been about a hundred years ago accompanied with historic holiday music and a tradition, old-world Christmas tree complete with a decorated courtyard.
