Enjoy The May Weather Over In Miami

It’s almost summer in Miami, but that doesn’t mean May isn’t dishing out great activities this week. There are several events and happenings that may fall into your interest while you stay in your Miami furnished apartments.

The Center at Miami Dade College will be holding a class/workshop on poetry and the spoken word named Aimee Nezhukumatathil: Bringing the Outside In: Poetry and Wonder on May 6 from 9am to 12pm. Here artistic minds will craft literature pieces while taking inspiration from the language and vocabulary of myths, folklore, science and natural history. Beginners and those who are looking for a great way to kick start their next manuscript or creative work are welcome to join the workshop. On the same day, there will be a signing/reading by George O’Connor on his book entitled The Art of Graphic Storytelling from 2pm to 5pm. Artists on all levels – from beginners to professionals are welcome to join and explore further the art of comics and graphic novels.

If you are a supporter of fundraisers for diseases such as ALS, Cafe Cita will be holding a benefit fundraiser for those suffering ALS. The events is on May 6 and will happen from 5:30pm to 7:30 pm and it is free for all ages.

This week the LGBT community will be having a party at the Courtyard by Marriott called BeachBear Weekend from May 5 all the way to May 11. Proceeds from the BeachBear Weekend will help in the efforts of organizations such as The Pride Center of Equality Park and Abandoned Pet Rescue.

Jazz enthusiast? You might want to try out Le Chat Noir’s Descarga Latin Jazz Jam. Join pianist Papo Delgado and trumpeter Julito Padron for a night of musical fun. This free event runs every Wednesday of May, 9pm starting May 6.

If you are bringing the family with you on your trip to Miami, you might find Dinosaurs LIVE! at Zoo Miamian interesting show to go to. This History/Science-centric Jurrasic adventure will take you and your family into the world of dinosaurs. Completing the adventure are the life-size animatronic dinosaurs in the Zoo. This show runs from May 5 to May 8 from 10am to 5pm and May 9 to May 10 from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Another event to bring your family is the North Miami Beach Public Library’s Bringing Back Story Time on May 9. The family-centric activity will be presented by Teacher Eunice Jean-Marie for the library’s A Family Literacy Program. Here kids will be able to make their own storybook and even take it home with them.

The Coral Springs Gymnasium will be holding the basketball event entitled the MBA National Masters Championships from May 5 to May 9. Here basketball enthusiasts ranging from high school students to NBA divisions will be pitted in highly competitive full-court series of games. Gracing the event are layers such as Cris Carter, Tim Hardaway and Billy Thompson.

Got what it takes to be the best stand-up comedian out there? On May 7, Casino Miami will be holding a Comedy Competition on May 7. There will be cash prizes, slot machine credits and affordable drinks all around all night long.

Always wanted to learn a new language? Here’s your chance at the North Dade Regional Library will be holding a class workshop named Creole Basics for an Emerging Market on May 7. Here class participants will be able to learn the primary language of Haiti. However, there are limited slots so registration is a must!

Celebrate Mother’s Day at Dadeland Mall with the fashion show Indulge, Fashion + Fun for Moms. This free event on May 7 promises moms everywhere a fun time and much need enjoyment they all deserve. Another idea for Mother’s Day is to take mom out to Morikami Museum and Japanese Garden for their Sushi & Stroll Summer Walk Series on May 8 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Enjoy harmony with nature with Taiko drum performances with a great view of the sunset and cool drinks at hand.

Looking for great show to go to? This week Miami offers two of the best. Over at the American Airlines Arena is the stand up comedy show by Kevin Hart on May 9 with a show at 7 pm and another at 10:30. Meanwhile, rock-metal band Nightwish will be coming over to Revolution Live on May 9 at 7pm.
