great activities in Miami

Kick off the Month of March with great activities in Miami

Summer is coming up fast and we all know what that means! Beaches, tans, and a whole lot of summer fun. What better way to fight off the upcoming summer heat than by hitting the wonderful beaches of Miami while relaxing in a convenient fully furnished apartment nearby? If surfing the waves and keeping an eye on eye candy isn’t your thing, then don’t worry as Miami has a whole lot more in stores for its guests aside from its iconic waves.

If you are planning to bring the family along, there are a lot of family-friendly activities planned out. One of these is the musical-comedy adaptation of a well-loved family, The Addams Family. Staged at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School at 127th Avenue, the story involves a very familiar horror-story scenario every father with a little girl has to face: a boyfriend. Over at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts at Biscayne Boulevard is the performance of the experimental performance art of Cirquesco. They will be bringing over the magic and artistry of a European circus and its burlesque performances to audiences in Miami. Meanwhile, over at Main Library Theatre, a unique production of a Shakespeare classic is in tow. Aptly dubbed as R&J [romeo and juliet] a Danced Drama, this rendition of a Shakespearean classic is adapted into a dance play and set in Miami in the early 20th century. Not only you will experience the classic drama like no other, but the production will also be presenting original songs and choreography that will surely give you a whole new and fresh perspective of the classic drama. Another stage adaptation that you would not want to miss is Alice in Wonderland at the Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Set in a musical genre, this adaptation of the classic children’s tale written by Lewis Carroll follows the storyline we have all grew up loving. If you are looking for a great family time that involves a great exposure to culture, head over to Fruit & Spice Park for the Asian Cultural Festival. Though it may not be completely Asia, the festival aims to bring the wonders of Eastern culture through a virtual day trip. An absolute must-attend for every family.

If you are traveling alone and are looking for great places where you can spend your free time, here are a few suggestions that you might want to consider. PerForm Studio at 79th Avenue Northwest hosts a Zumba Wellness Class at affordable rates. They also provide a variety of other classes such as Bollywood, samba, salsa, flamenco, and so on. Having a lonely night or just looking for a great way to celebrate the much-awaited spring break? Trek over to Passion Nightclub at Seminole Way for great music and dancing. On the 6th of March, DJ Pauly D of Jersey Shore and a nominee for America’s Best DJ in 2010 and 2011 will be there to fill the night with great music. In addition to that ladies can enjoy an open bar from 10pm to 12 am while those on the guest list will receive free entry before 12 midnight. If partying all night long is not your game then maybe laughing out loud is. ARTcade is hosting a Comedy Night where Miami’s funniest comedians will be together in one roof to bring smiles to everyone. In addition to that, free admission and affordable beer will be available to attendees.

For the artists at heart, Miami won’t fail you. The Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College is holding an evening class workshop entitled Exquisite Writing: Poets Write Memoir With Neil de la Flor wherein students will be taught, exposed and guided on how to use surrealism to create works of art as well as to revive memories in their own version of Technicolor. The writing workshop is also aimed to expand attending writers’ capabilities and is highly recommended for writers who enjoy word-play and are open minded to experimentation. The Coral Gables Museum is holding an educational gallery entitled ARTcycle: Awareness, Respect + Tolerance where the exhibit features an everyday phenomenon, the human being on a bike. The exhibit aims to raise awareness on citizen’s driving habits and to reduce bike-related accidents. Admission to this event is free of charge.
