Sony Ericsson – History

2007 was the first year when Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications sponsored a major tennis tournament. It completely changed the way of tennis and its sponsors were presented. For the first time it combined one of the most popular sports in the world with the entertainment industry to create a powerful mix from both of them. Sony Ericsson M.C became an icon of the tennis tournament´s history.

This event tremendously changed the way their presentations where done; Next it sponsored five glamorous fashion shows by very well-known designers Diane von Furstenberg, Roberto Cavalli, Etro and the upscale local Village of Merrick Park. It also became involved with a culinary show presented by the chef Norman Van Aken and Katy.
The music was one of the most important aspects in these great shows and had to be combined hand-in-hand with the stars performances. The musicians who sung included Jose Feliciano, JoJo, Jon Secada, Kelly Rowland, Melissa Jimenez and Boyd Tinsley.

The Sony Ericsson Open set a new record with over 272,000 spectators attending the fascinating mix of excellent quality tennis and great entertainment in one place.
In 2008 they repeated the same extraordinary combination and set another new record with over 297,000 guests visiting the Tennis Center at Crandon Park. On this occasion it was a truly complete and great experience for both tennis players and fans.

Present at the Open were people from the entertainment industry, sports industry and actors who visited as Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Brittany Murphy, and Pauly Shore; musicians like Paulina Rubio, Alejandro Sanz, Jon-McLaughlin; NBA stars, Television host stars and others.
On the red carpet appeared some of the world’s most well-known celebrities, Dj Bob Sinclair, Anna Kournikova, famous supermodels and others.

Once again this was a complete and extraordinary show combined with an excellent tennis tournament in 2008.
2009 was no exception as the Sony Ericsson Open was again an exceptional experience for both tennis players and visitors.

During this year they again set one of the highest records for attendances with over 293,000 people present.
Finally in 2010 the Sony Ericsson Open broke the record of over 300,000 people in attendance, the first time that had happened in the tournaments history. The record total was 312,386 visitors to the Crandon Park Tennis Center and 14,119 spectators for the men´s final. The Sony Ericsson Open is a totally amazing experience that can only happen in Miami.
